Avoiding stereotypical post-rock structures and moving further from shoegaze, Splendor, second album by slovak instrumental act The Ills shows band's new sound, more melodic, inspired partly by genres like math-rock or sludge. Combination of strong atmosphere, almost popish choruses, guitar soundscapes and amazing mastering by Gargle and Expel brings the sound of Splendor next to their highly praised live gigs. That's the reason why Splendor was recorded live in a rehearsal room during two days and only one song contains ovedubs. Band's aim was to make a record, which captures the raw and confident energy of The Ills' concerts. Splendor is that kind of record.
